Chassis OptionsA Tricon system is made up of one ormore chassis assemblies which containI/O and communication modules. Thefirst chassis of a system is called theMain Chassis (Model 8110). To enlargea system, Expansion Chassis (Model8111 or 8121) and/or RXM Chassis(Model 8112) can be added. (See“System Configuration” on page 11 fordetails.)I/O Expansion BusEach chassis has six RS-485 I/O expansion bus ports at the top left corner ofthe backplane. There are two sets ofports for channels A, B, and C,providing for two triplicated serialcommunications paths between chassis.One set of cables is required for eachExpansion Chassis and for the RXMChassis which houses the primaryRXM Module set. The standard lengthof a cable set (Model 9000) is 6 feet—longer cables are available if needed.The triplicated I/O bus transfers databetween the I/O modules and the MainProcessors at 375 kilobits per second.The communication bus runs betweenthe Main Processors and the communication modules at 2 megabits persecond. Keyswitch for System ControlThe Main Chassis has a four-positionkeyswitch which controls all thechassis in the system. The keyswitchsetting is readable by Tricon controllers, TriStation 1131 software, and thecontrol programs. Switch settings are:RUN—Normal operation with readonly capability. The Main Processors execute the previously-loaded controlprogram. Attempts to modify programvariables by TriStation 1131, Modbusmasters, or external hosts are rejected.However, a control program may callgated access functions to enableexternal host writes during a designatedwindow of time.
