Main Processor ModulesModel 3008 Main Processors (MP) areavailable for Tricon v9.6 and latersystems. For detailed specifications,see the Planning and Installation Guidefor Tricon Systems.Three MPs must be installed in theMain Chassis of every Tricon system.Each MP independently communicateswith its I/O subsystem and executes theuser-written control program.Sequence of Events (SOE)and Time SynchronizationDuring each scan, the MPs inspectdesignated discrete variables for statechanges known as events. When anevent occurs, the MPs save the currentvariable state and time stamp in thebuffer of an SOE block.
If multiple Tricon systems areconnected by means of NCMs, the timesynchronization capability ensures aconsistent time base for effective SOEtime-stamping. See page 72 for moreinformation.DiagnosticsExtensive diagnostics validate thehealth of each MP, I/O module andcommunication channel. Transientfaults are recorded and masked by thehardware majority-voting circuit.Persistent faults are diagnosed and theerrant module is hot-replaced.MP diagnostics perform these tasks:• Verify fixed-program memory andstatic RAM
• Test all basic processor and floatingpoint instructions and operatingmodes• Validate user memory by means ofthe TriBus hardware-votingcircuitry• Verify the shared memory interfacewith each I/O communicationprocessor and channel• Verify handshake and interruptsignals between the CPU, each I/Ocommunication processor andchannel• Check each I/O communicationprocessor and channelmicroprocessor, ROM, sharedmemory access and loopback of RS485 transceivers• Verify the TriClock and TriBusinterfaces
