64-Point Digital InputModulesEach 64-point digital input (DI) modulehas three isolated channels which independently process all data input to themodule. A microprocessor on eachchannel scans each input point,compiles data and transmits it to themain processors on demand. Then inputdata is voted at the main processors justprior to processing to ensure the highestintegrity.All digital input modules sustaincomplete, ongoing diagnostics for eachchannel. A failure on any channel activates the Fault indicator which in turnactivates the chassis alarm. A TMRmodule is guaranteed to operate properly in the presence of a single fault and may operate properly with certain kindsof multiple faults.All digital input modules support hotspare modules and require a separateexternal termination panel (ETP) with acable interface to the Tricon backplane.Each module is mechanically keyed toprevent improper installation in achassis.The model 3504E High Density DigitalInput Module continuously verifies theability of the Tricon to detect transitionsto the opposite state. On this TMRmodule, all critical signal paths are 100percent triplicated for guaranteed safetyand maximum availability. Eachchannel conditions signals independently between the field and the Tricon.The Single Digital Input Module(model 3564) is optimized for safetycritical applications where low cost ismore important than maximum availability. On single modules, only thoseportions of the signal path which arerequired to ensure safe operation aretriplicated. Special self-test circuitrydetects all stuck-ON and stuck-OFFfault conditions in less than half asecond. If a single module detects aninput fault, it reports that point as OFF,which may cause a glitch duringswitch-over to a hot-spare module.
