TMR Digital Input ModulesEach TMR digital input (DI) modulehas three isolated input channels whichindependently process all data input tothe module. A microprocessor on eachchannel scans each input point,compiles data, and transmits it to themain processors upon demand. Theninput data is voted at the main processors just prior to processing to ensurethe highest integrity. All critical signalpaths are 100 percent triplicated forguaranteed safety and maximum availability. Each channel conditions signalsindependently and provides opticalisolation between the field and theTricon.All TMR digital input modules sustaincomplete, ongoing diagnostics for eachchannel. Failure of any diagnostic onany channel activates the module Faultindicator which in turn activates thechassis alarm signal. The module Faultindicator points to a channel fault, not amodule failure. The module is guaranteed to operate properly in the presenceof a single fault and may continue tooperate properly with certain kinds ofmultiple faults.Models 3502E, 3503E, and 3505E canself-test to detect stuck-ON conditionswhere the circuitry cannot tell whethera point has gone to the OFF state. Sincemost safety systems are set up with a de-energize-to-trip capability, theability to detect OFF points is an important feature. To test for stuck-ONinputs, a switch within the inputcircuitry is closed to allow a zero input(OFF) to be read by the optical isolationcircuitry. The last data reading is frozenin the I/O communication processorwhile the test is running.All TMR digital input modules supporthot-spare capability, and require a separate external termination panel (ETP)with a cable interface to the Triconbackplane. Each module is mechanically keyed to prevent improper installation in a configured chassis.
