Safety Manager ModuleThe Model 4409 Safety ManagerModule (SMM) acts as an interfacebetween a Tricon controller and aHoneywell Universal Control Network(UCN), one of three principal networksof the TDC-3000 Distributed ControlSystem. Appearing to the Honeywellsystem as a safety node on the UCN, theSMM communicates process information at full network data rates for useanywhere on the TDC-3000. The SMMtransmits Tricon aliased data (includingsystem variables) and diagnostic information to operator workstations indisplay formats that are familiar toHoneywell operators.The SMM makes the following functions available to the TDC-3000:• Handles critical I/O points andpasses results to the DCS• Processes Tricon alarms andpropagates them to user-definedDCS destinations (consoles,printers, etc.)• Reads/writes aliased data to satisfyDCS requests • Reads Tricon diagnostics for displayby the DCS• Write protection to lock out changesto the Tricon controller from allTDC-3000 sources• Time synchronization from the DCSmaster clock• Peer-to-Peer communication forplants with many Tricon controllers,each containing an SMM—the DCScan use shared data to alertdownstream Tricons of significantprocess changes• Sequence of Events—transmitsTricon event data to UniversalStations for display or HistoryModules for recording, to helpdetermine the cause of plant tripsand increase process up-time• Hot-spare capability foruninterrupted communication withHoneywell networks
