Advanced CommunicationModule (ACM)The Model 4609 Advanced Communication Module (ACM) acts as an interface between a Tricon controller and aFoxboro Intelligent Automation (I/A)Series system, appearing to theFoxboro system as a safety node on theI/A Series Nodebus. The ACMcommunicates process information atfull network data rates for useanywhere on the I/A Series system,transmitting all Tricon aliased data(including system variables andsystem aliases) and diagnostic information to operator workstations indisplay formats that are familiar toFoxboro operators. The ACM makesthe following functions available tothe I/A Series:• Handles critical I/O points andpasses results to the I/A Seriesusing the Object ManagementDatabase (OMDB)• Processes Tricon alarms andpropagates them to user-definedI/A Series destinations (consoles,printers, etc.) • Propagates Tricon alarms as I/ASeries system messages• Reads/writes aliased data to satisfyI/A Series requests• Time synchronization from the I/ASeries environment• Reads Tricon diagnostics for displayby the I/A Series workstation• Write protection to lock out changesto the Tricon controller from all I/ASeries sources• Hot-spare capability foruninterrupted communication withthe I/A Series NodebusThe ACM also supports the followingTriconex protocols and applications onexternal host PCs connected to a separate BNC port (labeled NET 2):• Tristation protocol for the TriStation1131 software• TSAA protocol for Triconexapplications• TSAA/TCP (UDP/IP) for userwritten applications on externalhosts
